Florida Child Labor Law Poster
On March 22, 2024, Governor DeSantis signed House Bill No. 49, which removes several employment restrictions for certain minors in the Sunshine State. Of note, the law provides that minors 16 and 17 years old can now work 8 hours a day between 6:30 a.m. and 11:00 p.m. when school is scheduled the following day and can also work longer on holidays and Sundays. Additionally, they may work more than 30 hours a week when school is in session if the minor’s parent, custodian, or school superintendent provides a waiver. The bill further revises child labor provisions related to meal breaks, exemptions for home education programs, and penalties.
With significant amendments to the state’s child labor law in effect on July 1, 2024, the release of a new Florida Child Labor Poster reflecting these changes was a much-anticipated update.
